Raisa Mäkipää

Dr. Raisa Mäkipää is a senior scientist at  the Natural Resources Institute Finland. She got a Master’s degree in plant ecology and PhD in forest soil science (1998) at the University of Eastern Finland. Raisa’s main interest is in functioning of forest ecosystems: carbon and nitrogen cycling, succession, biodiversity, and forest management in changing climate. She has published 54 peer reviewed papers, few book chapters, and three books of which one received a State Award for Public Information in 2004. She has contributed to the IPCC work as a lead author and shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize to IPCC. Her current projects focus on optimization of forest management in changing climate and on diversity and functioning of wood-inhabiting fungi in decomposing substrate.
